Scaling High-Integrity Tropical Forest Carbon
Ceiba Earth PBC restores and protects degraded, selectively logged tropical forests to deliver high-integrity carbon removals, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable livelihoods.
The Ceiba (pronounced SAY -bah) is a sacred tropical tree that symbolizes the connection between forest and sky.
WHY
Tropical forests are essential to meeting global climate targets
The world needs to remove billions of tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. Scalable Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) are essential to meeting this challenge.
Tropical forests are the planet's largest carbon storage and removals ecosystem, yet decades of selective logging have left hundreds of millions of hectares degraded, in a state of suppressed recovery. These forests remain standing, but function well below their ecological and carbon uptake potential.
The good news is these forests want to recover. They retain the biological capacity for rapid natural regeneration if given the right conditions. What has been missing is a scalable and verifiable pathway to accelerate that recovery while sustaining livelihoods.
These forests can store a lot more carbon if we restore them.
WHAT
Unlocking one of the world's largest natural carbon removal opportunities
Restoring forests. Removing carbon. Building a new asset class
Selectively logged tropical forest concessions cover approximately 400 million hectares—roughly one quarter of the world's remaining tropical forests.
These landscapes retain extraordinary biodiversity and vast carbon stocks, yet sit on the front lines of degradation and deforestation and remain largely overlooked by conservation and carbon finance–among the world's most underinvested natural assets.
Built on more than two decades of founder-led scientific research, our restoration forestry approach accelerates forest recovery to remove more carbon, faster and at lower cost, while reducing logging impacts and expanding forestry livelihoods.
We combine scientific rigor with a commercially scalable model of sustainable natural forest management, creating a pathway to gigaton-scale durable carbon removal.
HOW
Ceiba restores selectively logged tropical forests to ecological health, accelerating carbon removal while reducing the impacts of logging and protecting against deforestation.
We acquire or partner on selectively logged tropical forest concessions and implement a set of scientific silvicultural methods that restore and protect forests, generate high-integrity durable carbon removals, and create lasting benefits for the communities that depend on them.
OUR SCIENCE
Applying silviculture to tropical forests, setting a new global standard for concession management
Silviculture is the science and practice of managing forests to improve their health, productivity, and long-term ecological integrity.
Applying proven silvicultural practices, we transform degraded tropical forest concessions into long-term climate, biodiversity, and community assets.
THE PROBLEM WITH THE STATUS QUO
Conventional selective logging is often a poor business model: it extracts near-term timber value, under-invests in forest stewardship and recovery, and leaves rural families with unstable jobs and limited income.
HIGH-INTEGRITY CARBON REMOVALS
Scalable nature-based removal credits — Fast. Cost-Effective. Durable. Fully Additional. Zero Leakage. Science-Backed. High-Integrity.
CEIBA’S BETTER MODEL
Ceiba is building a better model, ecologically and financially — one that restores forests, creates recurring rural livelihoods, improves forestry economics, and generates long-term value for people and the planet.
An investable forest concession model that aligns ecological and financial outcomes, combining restoration, removals, protection, and sustainable production forestry business models.
Catalyzing global market adoption— transforming the tropical forest concession industry into a scalable engine for carbon removal, biodiversity conservation, and rural prosperity.
Randomized Control Trials (RCTs)—The gold standard of credibility — the same framework used in clinical medicine — applied to forest carbon measurement for the first time under a Verra methodology. Treatment plots are rigorously compared to randomly assigned control plots, eliminating the estimation errors and manipulation risks that have undermined other carbon projects.
WHO
Ceiba Earth PBC brings together leaders in forest carbon science, natural capital investing, and social enterprise operations to bridge the gap between scientific innovation and large-scale, real-world impact.
Founded by Bronson Griscom, Ph.D., former Global Director of Forest Carbon Science at The Nature Conservancy and Vice President of Natural Climate Solutions at Conservation International; a leading natural climate solutions scientist with 30+ years of tropical forest research and field implementation experience.
