Scaling High-Integrity
Tropical Forest Carbon
Ceiba Earth acquires and restores selectively logged tropical forest concessions to generate scientifically verified carbon removals with attractive investment returns and local community benefits.
The Ceiba (pronounced Say-bah) is a sacred canopy emergent tree symbolizing the connection between the earth and the heavens.
Who We Are
Scientists and Operators Who Have Spent Decades Getting This Right
Ceiba Earth PBC was founded by scientists with deep roots at The Nature Conservancy and Conservation International — institutions where rigorous, peer-reviewed science is a professional standard, not a marketing claim. Our team has spent two decades working in tropical forest landscapes: measuring carbon, studying biodiversity, developing and stress-testing natural climate solutions, and learning what actually works in the field versus what only works on paper.
Our CEO, Dr. Bronson Griscom, is one of the world's leading scientists on forest carbon, with more than 20 peer-reviewed publications on tropical forest carbon and biodiversity. Our team has co-authored existing Verra IFM methodologies, conducted randomized controlled trials across logging concessions in Peru, Brazil, and Indonesia, and secured more than $7 million in prior grant funding to develop and validate the science that underpins our work.
Why a Public Benefit Corporation? Being a PBC is not incidental to how we operate — it is structural to it. A PBC is legally required to balance financial returns against broader public benefit, which means our obligations to ecological integrity and community outcomes are built into our governance, not just our marketing. It gives us the mandate to be fully transparent about our methods, honest about uncertainty in our projections, and rigorous in our science even when that rigor is costly. In a carbon market where credibility is the scarcest resource, we believe that structure is an asset.

What We Do
Restoring Forests. Removing Carbon. Building a New Asset Class.
Tropical forest logging concessions cover approximately one quarter of remaining rainforests. These landscapes retain extraordinary biodiversity and hold vast carbon stocks — yet they sit at the front lines of degradation and deforestation, largely overlooked by existing conservation and carbon finance mechanisms.
Ceiba Earth works in this landscape. We acquire selectively logged tropical forest concessions and restore them through science-based interventions that return forests to ecological health, generate high-integrity carbon removals, and create lasting benefits for the communities that depend on them. Our model is designed to integrate multiple forms of climate-smart forestry over time — including forest protection and reduced-impact logging — as project landscapes and carbon markets evolve.
The result is a portfolio of verified carbon removals certified under rigorous international standards, with the ecological and social co-benefits that distinguish premium credits from commodity ones.

Why We Do It
Tropical Forests Are the Climate's Most Powerful Ally. We're Helping Them Recover.
Tropical forests are the planet's most carbon-dense terrestrial ecosystems — and among the most under-restored. Decades of selective logging have left hundreds of millions of hectares in suppressed recovery: forests that are still intact, still storing carbon, but functioning well below their ecological potential.
These forests want to recover. They have the biological capacity, the root systems, the seed banks, and the soil to regenerate rapidly — if given the right conditions. What has been lacking is a rigorous, scalable, verifiable pathway to accelerate that recovery and account for it credibly.
Ceiba Earth exists to build that pathway — not for a single forest, or a single intervention, but across the full range of science-based restoration and protection approaches applicable to tropical production forest landscapes. Tropical forest restoration, done rigorously, is one of the largest scalable carbon removal opportunities on earth. It simultaneously restores biodiversity, strengthens local economies, and demonstrates that conservation and commerce can reinforce rather than undermine each other.
Scientifically Grounded
Every intervention we deploy is backed by peer-reviewed evidence and measured using the highest-integrity verification methods available — including randomized controlled trials applied to forest carbon measurement for the first time.
Ecologically Additive
Our treatments restore forest structure and biodiversity without displacing existing livelihoods or reducing timber productivity. We create new economic opportunity in landscapes that need it most.
Built to Scale
The addressable landscape spans hundreds of millions of hectares across the tropics. Our model — starting with a single concession in Peru — is designed from day one to expand across geographies, intervention types, and carbon markets.
How We Do It
From Degraded Forest to Verified Carbon — A Rigorous, Replicable Process
Ceiba Earth's operational protocols and field systems represent core competitive advantages developed over years of pilot work. What follows reflects our published science and Verra-reviewed methodology. Operational details are disclosed to investors and offtake partners under NDA.

Concession Acquisition
We identify and acquire selectively logged tropical forest concessions with verified land tenure, accessible governance frameworks, and confirmed restoration potential. Our team has spent years building the relationships and conducting the due diligence needed to move quickly and responsibly in these landscapes.
The DeVine Treatment
Our core initial intervention — DeVine — is the selective thinning of super-abundant woody vines (lianas) that suppress tree growth in disturbed forests. A single treatment delivers a lasting 12–20 year recovery effect, generating approximately 8 tCO₂ per hectare per year in additional removals. DeVine creates local employment without reducing timber productivity or displacing existing livelihoods.
Monitoring, Reporting & Verification
We measure carbon removals using Verra methodology M0274, which we co-developed — the first carbon methodology to use randomized controlled trials and dynamic baselines. Treatment plots are rigorously compared to randomly assigned controls. Baselines update in real time. Satellite imagery and AI analysis — in partnership with specialists including Ctrees.org — monitor outcomes at scale.
Certification & Sale
Projects are certified under Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) standard. VCUs are sold to corporate buyers seeking high-integrity, removal-based credits — leakage-free, with empirically grounded baselines and genuine permanence.
No Leakage
We work within legally established logging concessions. There is no displacement of timber pressure to other landscapes.
No Baseline Manipulation
RCT-measured dynamic baselines mean additionality is empirically measured, not modeled from assumptions.
Real Permanence
Our carbon reflects actual new tree growth — wood physically added to the forest — not a policy commitment that can be reversed.
